Our Beliefs

With various activities, we meet interests and expand the educational experience. Opportunities give challenges in their academic studies, develop in athletic sports, and participate in extra-curricular activities. ELS strives for our students to be part of a well-rounded program. 

Christian beliefs (as understood and taught in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)) are a part of everything done at Evansville Lutheran School. Christian instruction is not just a part of each religion class but within every subject. Students are immersed in a Christian atmosphere, surrounded by teachers, administrators, school employees, and pastors whose presence reflects our commitment to the Christian faith and way of life.

While we recognize that not all Evansville Lutheran School families are members of the LCMS, we remind all families that these values will be taught to all students, regardless of their denominational affiliation. Every parent has the right to raise their children with the beliefs taught and confessed by their church or denomination. Many of our teachings will be similar to what your church believes. However, when there are disagreements, we ask, out of Christian love and charity, that parents do not undermine the Lutheran Christian atmosphere of our school by publicly promoting or contradicting our teachings and doctrines in the word or conduct of life. We encourage you instead to discuss your concerns with our staff.

When it comes to academics, Evansville Lutheran has three goals:

  • To give students optimal opportunity to grow in their relationship of faith and life with God.

    “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3)

  • To help students grow toward becoming independent and mature individuals.

  • To prepare them academically for high school life.

Core Lutheran Beliefs

The Holy Scriptures are the foundation of what we believe as Lutheran Christians. Our Lutheran Confessions, which are written documents, express what we believe, teach and confess regarding the Christian faith as proclaimed in the Bible. Clubs & Activities

No matter the interests your child may have, they will find an activity to join at ELS. These clubs provide opportunities for students to build community and develop their skills in a fun and relaxed environment.

Our musical and drama productions are anticipated throughout the academic year. Students enjoy performing, working behind the scenes, and being in the audience watching their peers perform. Activities and groups here include such as:

  • National Junior Honor Society

  • Speech Competitions

  • Dramas & Musicals

  • Media Club

  • Choir & Band

Technology

Our goal is to teach students technology awareness to recognize technology and work comfortably and responsibly with it. We achieve this through technology literacy, which focuses on the fundamental understanding of operations and terms, applications in society, uses and limitations of technology, and time spent on being responsible users of technology, from safe internet surfing to using the appropriate technology for the task. We also work on basic skills, such as typing and word processing. Currently, in grades 4 to 8, students use personal iPads to enhance their academics. We also have school chromebooks available for use in our middle school.

Our media center is available to students and faculty though-out the school day. Students may borrow materials each week and utilize the research materials as needed to complete classroom assignments. Every student can find books of personal interest, whether the latest fiction or classic literature. Our non-fiction volumes include biographies, science and nature books, spiritual materials, and books on history, the arts, and geography.

Athletics

We recognize the importance of being part of a team and want each child to have that opportunity. Every child who wants to play gets to play regardless of personal skill level. Emphasis is placed on Christian sportsmanship and individual improvement to help each child reach their potential while enjoying the game and learning to work cooperatively with others. Coaches encourage an attitude of “team before self” and players are recognized for displaying this attribute.

A co-ed developmental basketball league geared toward helping kindergartners through fourth-graders learn fundamental skills, game rules, and team play. Following six weeks of skills practice and games, a single elimination tournament lets each child experience the “big game.”

Students have a variety of sports to participate in and develop their skills. These include:

  • Cheer

  • Cross Country

  • Track
